Is Hospice Care Expensive?

Hospice is fully covered for most patients.

When families reach out to Hospice of the Piedmont, one of the first questions we often hear is, “How much does hospice cost?” You may be relieved to hear that Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans include hospice benefits that cover 100% of hospice services. This coverage includes expert nursing care, medications related to the hospice diagnosis, equipment, and emotional and spiritual support.

And as a not-for-profit, Hospice of the Piedmont never makes care decisions based on someone’s ability to pay. So you can focus on what really matters — time with your loved one.

What Families Are Saying

How Hospice Care is Paid For

The Medicare Hospice Benefit covers 100% of hospice services for Medicare beneficiaries who meet eligibility criteria. No copays, no deductibles.

Most state Medicaid programs offer hospice benefits similar to Medicare. The majority of private insurance plans cover hospice as well — our admissions team verifies your specific benefits before care begins.

If you don’t have insurance, Hospice of the Piedmont still provides care regardless of someone’s ability to pay. Generous community gifts make this commitment possible.
