In recognition of the fact that our hospice team incurs fuel-related costs in providing essential care and services to those we serve; Hospice of the Piedmont will increase its mileage reimbursement from $0.50 per mile to the IRS standard mileage rate of $0.585 (58.5 cents per mile).
As we all know, recent global events have resulted in a significant increase in costs in the per barrel cost of crude oil. In turn, this has an increasing effect on gas prices. The IRS mileage reimbursement rate is set as the maximum per mile reimbursement rate an employer may set and not be considered taxable income. In other words, if the organization paid more than the IRS mileage rate, all payments for mileage in excess of the current IRS mileage rate would be considered normal taxable income. Unless otherwise noted, the rate will automatically adjust for any subsequent changes to the IRS standard mileage rate.
This proactive measure in the change in the mileage rate will become effective for all mileage reimbursements for dates of service beginning February 20, 2022. This change represents an estimated $54,000 annual investment in the financial well-being of our team members.
