Kids Path – Medical
Kids Path*, a program of Hospice of the Piedmont, is designed to meet the special needs of children and teens who are diagnosed with any life-limiting illness.
Hospice care is offered for children (ages birth to 18 years) with a life-threatening illness when the child’s life expectancy is measured by months rather than years. Our Kids Path team partners with a child’s physician who usually provides the required doctor’s order for hospice services.
The Kids Path team is led by the children’s counselor, who is a licensed clinical social worker, and a pediatric registered nurse with emphasis on the needs of young patients and their families. The entire interdisciplinary care team also includes our medical providers (physicians and nurse practitioners), nursing assistants, chaplains and volunteers. In addition to regular visits by the team, nurses are on call around the clock, every day of the week. The overall goal is to enhance the quality of life for the children and families in our care.
As with our other programs, Kids Path accepts private insurance, Medicaid and other third party payment for medical services. Because of generous community support, care is provided regardless of financial circumstances.
