The E-Series: Caregiver Identity

There are many different pathways to becoming a caregiver. Whether a caregiving role evolves over time due to increased needs or is the result of a sudden life event, all caregivers go through an identity development process. Listen in as CEO Trent Cockerham and Dr. Elise Eifert, Assistant Professor and Graduate Coordinator for the Gerontology program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, discuss how the caregiver identity is solidified through both internal and external reinforcement and how awareness of this identity can result in better connections with and utilization of available resources.

Guest Bio: Dr. Elise Eifert is an Assistant Professor and Graduate Coordinator for the Gerontology program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Before that, she was an Assistant Professor at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. She graduated in 2014 from UNCG with a Ph.D. in Public Health Education and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Gerontology. She has her MS in Health Promotion from Indiana University at Bloomington. Her BS is in Health Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Dr. Eifert is a gerontology and health promotion scholar with over 15 years of experience working and conducting research with family caregivers. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, listening to live music, and fostering dogs with her husband, Reed.
