The E-Series: Veteran Caregivers

Special guest facilitator Kat Gibson, Vice President of Clinical Services for Hospice of the Piedmont, is joined by Tammy Franklin, Respite Coordinator for the Salisbury VA Medical Center for a thoughtful discussion about the needs of those caregiving for Veterans. They explore the unique challenges Veteran caregivers face due to the cognitive, emotional and physical distress the Veteran may have experienced while serving, talk through practical self-care strategies to help sustain Veteran caregivers, and discuss the benefits of connecting with fellow Veteran caregivers.

Guest Bio: Tammy Franklin, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and Army Veteran who has worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs for 20 years. Her first 9 years with the VA were with the Home-Based Primary Care program where she had the privilege of working with Veterans and caregivers in their homes. She later transitioned into Women’s Health and Polytrauma programs before joining the Caregiver Support program in 2016. She is currently the Respite Coordinator for the Salisbury VA Medical Center.
