Grief is often more than just sadness—it’s brain fog, physical exhaustion, and navigating a world that expects you to “move on” before you’re ready. If you’ve ever felt like your grief is “weird” or overwhelming, you aren’t alone.
Join us for a 3-part educational series where we peel back the curtain on the parts of loss that rarely get talked about. This isn’t a traditional support session – we’ll utilize various activities to learn how grief works and how to navigate the “ripples” it causes in life.
Program Details
Part I
The Grief Brain – Why you’re exhausted and forgetful (and why it’s normal)
June 16 | 3 – 4 p.m.
Hospice of the Piedmont – Large Conference Room (1801 Westchester Drive, High Point)
Ever feel like you’re moving through a thick mental fog or struggling to remember the simplest things? This session explores the biological reality of “Grief Brain,” where the mind’s focus is redirected toward processing loss. We’ll discuss why you might feel physically exhausted, forgetful, or “clumsy,” and normalize these common cognitive shifts. Through guided discussion and activities, you’ll learn why brains work overtime and discover practical ways to navigate daily life while your mind and body heal.
Part II
Ripple Effect – Identifying secondary losses that make grief feel so heavy
July 14 | 3 – 4 p.m.
Hospice of the Piedmont – Large Conference Room (1801 Westchester Drive, High Point)
When a loved one dies, the impact is often like a stone thrown into a pond—the initial splash is significant, but the “ripples” of secondary losses continue to spread. This workshop helps identify those hidden losses, such as the loss of a social circle, a shared future, or even a sense of identity. We will use a “Ripple Map” activity to acknowledge these secondary challenges and provide a space to validate the complexity of grieving not just a person, but an entire way of life.
Part III
Moving With, Not From: Why “closure” is a myth and how to define real integration
August 18 | 3 – 4 p.m.
Hospice of the Piedmont – Large Conference Room (1801 Westchester Drive, High Point)
Society often pressures us to find closure and leave our grief behind, yet many find that grief’s nature is ongoing and evolving. This session challenges the myth of closure and introduces the concept of integration—learning to grow your life around grief rather than trying to “get over” grief. We will utilize the “Ball and the Box” metaphor to help define what it means to carry a loved one with you into the future, transforming your relationship with loss into a sustainable part of your new reality.
