A monthly interactive therapeutic art workshop for individuals who desire to explore creative ways to work through and express their grief.
What’s on your plate?
Managing life while caring for a loved one can be extremely stressful. After death, things do not get much easier as families scramble to plan funerals, memorials, and burials all while grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will use the analogy of “having a full plate” to create a visual representation of their responsibilities then learn strategies to improve time-management, reduce stress, and balance life with grief-related tasks.
May 5 | 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Registration deadline is April 30. Click here to register.
Memory Boxes
Although we lose a physical presence when someone dies, we don’t lose our connection to who they were and what they meant to us. Memories are one of the best ways for us to keep them alive for ourselves and future generations. Participants will use collage materials to decorate a memory box that will hold special mementos to remind them of their loved ones.
June 2 | 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Registration deadline is May 28. Click here to register.
Wishing Flags
Wishing flags are based on an old Tibetan tradition of writing personal messages on small, colorful flags then hanging them outdoors for the wind to spread these blessings and good fortune into the air. Participants will use fabric and paints to create wishing flags filled with messages of peace, compassion, strength, wisdom, and hope that are needed when grieving a loss. These messages can be intended for themselves, loved ones, or the deceased.
July 7 | 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Registration deadline is July 2. Click here to register.
Grief Mandalas
Mandala is a Sanskrit word that translates to “sacred circle.” It is often comprised of geometric patterns that symbolize healing and self-expression. Participants will create a simple version of a mandala to help explore internal challenges and increase focus on the present moment.
August 4 | 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Registration deadline is July 30. Click here to register.
Identity Collage
It can be difficult to see grief as only one part of who we are rather than our whole being. Identity collages allow us to take a closer look at how grief and identity impact each other. Participants will create an identity collage using various materials to form mirror images of their grief versus themselves.
September 8 | 4 – 5:30 p.m.
